We spent an extended time in Dénia and Valencia, Spain. Here's a fun video of the "gin and tonic man" at one of our favorite restaurants (Miguel Juan) in Dénia. He definitely entertains while he makes a drink. Miguel Juan has some of the most wonderful food and homemade vermut you will ever taste.
Dénia is a beautiful place to spend some time along the coast of Spain. The town get a number of tourists from northern Europe, but retains much of its traditional Spanish feel and life. You can enjoy delicious paella at one of the lovely seaside restaurants, soak in the sun at the beaches, visit the castle, stroll the streets of the town or enjoy a walk along the seaside promenade. The Montgo perched above to town makes a lovely spot for a hike or picnic, with a view of the surrounding coastal towns.
Valencia is the 3rd largest city in Spain and often overlooked by tourists on an initial visit to Spain. However, it's a wonderful place to feel at home in the Spanish lifestyle while at the same time enjoying some great sites. The old city has a marvelous cathedral and plenty for architecture and history buffs to enjoy. Don't miss the central market, a treasure for your tastebuds with the freshest fruits, veggies, cheese, ham and especially seafood.
Valencia also has a wonderful arts scene and some quirky neighborhoods full of personality. It's a great city to explore on foot, though the bus, tram and subway system also help (the subway is minimal but can help with further spots and the trams will take you out to the beach quite easily from the city center).
In sharp contrast to the old town is the Ciudad de Artes y Ciencias (City of Arts and Sciences) with its futuristic museums/sites. You'll feel like you've gone from past to future in less than a KM. The aquarium is a great spot to visit and on the other side of town, make sure not to miss the "zoo" (Bioparc Valencia), a "new generation" conception of the zoo with a natural setting for the wide array of animals. These two can't be missed if you're traveling with children especially.
